Jonty 26 moved between Durban and Capetown while growing up, and now lives in Johannesburg. He exclusively sells indoor hydroponic weed and is expanding his operations to social media to compete with the new “grey” dispensaries popping up all over Johannesburg.
Cannabis News (CN): Howzit
Jonty: Yo what’s up dawg
CN: What do you sell and where?
Jonty: I sell only the best quality strains, all indoor. I don’t sell any of that low-grade jut. My customers know me for my quality and keep coming back for more. I sell in the Gauteng region and have a team helping me out.
CN: How long have you been dealing weed and how did you get into it?
Jonty: It’s been 5 years now and I began out as most of us do… selling so I can smoke for free, but things started to snowball out of control. Fuck, the cash coming in just became too good. I had people hitting me up at all hours to get them that sticky-icky.
CN: How do you source your stuff?
Jonty: I get it from my plugs who import from Canada, Lesotho & Afghanistan.
CN: How do customers contact you?
Jonty: Through WhatsApp referrals or dropping me a DM on Instagram.
CN: Has Instagram helped you grow your business?
Jonty: I follow and unfollow profiles engaging with different Cannabis brands, this leads them to checking out my profile. I don’t post explicit weed photos but stories and highlights show them the amazing stock I have got. Inevitably I get DM’d for bulk orders and the profile is shared with their friends who are looking for a hookup too.
CN: Do you ever get worried you are going to be caught?
Jonty: It’s part of the game – permanent paranoia. I have been around and seen dealers come and go. I know the game and I know who my competition is. I’m here to stay and keep supplying homies in Joburg with the best bud in town.
CN: Thanks so much Jonty for the interview. Would you like to leave us with a final thought?
Jonty: Cannabis isn’t a drug, its medicine. Whether people are trying to get more rest or just chill with their homies the herb has a place to improve your life.
Being the place to go for weed in Johannesburg has its perks, but of course, it isn’t the easiest occupation. But without people like Jonty, the sacred herb would be a lot harder to come by.
