Your first time smoking weed can be exciting but somewhat daunting. It is not as simple as it used to be seeing as the cannabis industry has moved leaps and bounds since countries started legalising and decriminalising the plant. But not to worry, after playing around a little you’ll get the hang of things!
Start Low, Go Slow
This is a phrase that every cannabis veteran wishes they knew better when they started out. It usually applies to edibles, because they have a tendency of creeping up on you. However, it can be applied to all forms of cannabis.
Weed has a different impact on different individuals, so it’s important to find your limits. How you do that is start with a low dose, such as two pulls of a joint, and wait a while to see how you feel. From there you can adjust accordingly, either more or less, and find an amount that works for you.
Inhale the Smoke Rather Than Swallow It
Swallowing smoke will do nothing other that cause some cloudy burps. You should inhale the smoke as if it was air. Once inhaled the smoke should appear thin and uniform upon exhale.
If you smoke ciggies, vape or even hubbly, this should come pretty naturally to you. If you’ve never smoked anything before, this might come in handy. Don’t try and hold the smoke in your mouth either, it’s best to simply inhale as if you were breathing normally – and exhale in the same fashion.
Don’t try to be a hero if it’s your first time smoking weed and hold it in for longer than necessary either. Once experienced you can hold your puff for some stronger effects, but it really isn’t necessary. Inhale and exhale normally, and you’ll be good to go.
Better known as showboating Cross-Fading is when you mix two intoxicating substances together. Although in some cases it’s a blast, it’s not the best thing to try on your first time. Avoid alcohol at all costs guys as it can exacerbate the negative effects.
Ever heard of Greenies? If you’ve experienced this, you know it’s not a lekker journey. Greenies happen when you’ve had a few drinks, then decide you’d like to have a puff too. This sends your mind into a spin, causing dizziness and possibly a horrible tactical chunder.
If you are going to mix booze and Mary Jane, remember this: Grass before Glass, or you’ll land on your Ass.
Inhale Your Weed Before You Try Eating It
As mentioned before, edibles tend to creep up on you. Smoking is the method that takes effect fastest, as it only takes 10 minutes for THC to reach peak levels in the brain. So this is quite a lot easier to manage, and for it to pass over if you smoke too much.
Edibles, on the other hand, can take over an hour to reach peak levels. So the typical mistake people make is that they eat more of their edible before they’re feeling the effects of their first nibble. This can result in a mega-high that can be uncomfortable at times.
So we would recommend trying a couple of puffs from a joint, to understand what level of high you like. Once you’ve established this, you can then take your first nibble of an edible – you’ll know what the ‘high’ sensation feels like and you can play around a little after that.
These tips will help make your journey a little easier, but we still recommend doing your own research into the plant. Another thing to remember is how long weed will stay in your system for, especially if your place of work carries out regulary drug tests. And remember, if you smoke too much – that sensation WILL PASS! Relax, distract yourself and all will be okay.
