Jesse Pinkman is a pioneer of the local cannabis industry. After being involved years before decriminalisation, he has only shone brighter since the greater acceptance of cannabis by South Africans.
Not too long ago he as in our offices showing off the Boss Hog Rosin Press, his stanky collection of bud and sharing some knowledge and good vibes with our team. Since then we knew we wanted to find out more about this cannabis connoisseur, so that’s what we did.
What started your passion for cannabis?
I actually never smoked weed until the later stages of high school (grade 10).
I think the passion grew with those friends that I was around as our friendship grew those were the same friends that got me into smoking that later got me into growing as well.
What are the 3 main things every new grower should know?
- Peace
- Patience
- Perseverance
Saddest growing memory?
I would have to say my saddest growing memory would be my first grow, I had to cut the 2 colas off my plants due to heat stress growing in a small cupboard with 600Watt hps.
Your favourite growing technique?
I prefer to grow organically using a low-stress tool known as the OG spring. It’s a technique where no topping is involved but rather bending the main cola and attaching it to the spring, which causes the Auxen to spread to the lower nodes of the plant, slowing the upward growth of the plant and resulting in an even spread out canopy ready to be scrogged.
I use a spring to scrog technique with my indoor grows however I can’t use scrog nets outside due to my free-range chickens that often use the pots as a place to lay their eggs. I make use of a technique called flower training where additional springs are attached to the colas of the canopy.
Roughly, how much rosin can you press per gram of bud?
If you had to press 1 gram of quality bud you could get 0, 2 grams of rosin. A 20% yield.
Do you prefer dabs or flower, and why?
Ummm no, I don’t prefer dabs over flower or flower over dabs, I often cover my flower in rosin and dip it in kief.
I smoke both just as much as one or the other however a lot of today’s accessories and gear makes dabbing really convenient, not saying I don’t rip a few bowls a day either…
Nothing wrong with a good ol’ bong 💨
I just love all the extraction processes and different techniques that you can use to get the final product and showing people those steps along the way.
How did Warthog Rosin Tech start?
Warthog Rosin Tech was started about 5 years ago by Dan the Warthog man aka Heisenberg, I only joined the team a year or so after it started.
What do you think of the latest CBD craze?
Be aware of the products you buy, people should look into where the product is manufactured!
There are a lot of these CBD products and brands popping up, I think that people need to be educated that not all CBD is equal.
Do you believe SA is en route to full cannabis legalisation? If so, when do you think it will happen?
I do believe we are well on our way. However, there will always be some law behind the peaceful plant.
What sets the African Smoke Headshop apart from the rest?
At African Smoke, we stock products that stick out from what you would normally find in a typical bong shop.
We try our best to support local products and upcoming brands, we also import a lot of the well known name brands from the States.
If there is a product you are looking for that you don’t see on our website, feel free to email us your wish list.
A lot of people ask how long delivery takes??
We offer a same day service for deliveries in Joburg and surrounding areas and next day for anywhere else in SA.
Jesse Pinkman is a friend to all tokers in SA. Give him a follow on Instagram where he hosts awesome daily livestreams and is always open to having a chat!
You can also find him at the African Smoke Headshop, where he will be able to help you out with all of your cannabis needs!
