Who Is Monks Gin
For us to understand what Monks Gin is, we first have to understand who Nic & Di Davis are. These two entrepreneurs love to seek out adventure and wade into waters they know nothing about – only to reach the other side as true alchemists of an age-old craft. With a passion for alcohol, natural flavours and the ‘good stuff’, Nic & Di were able to coerce best friends and vineyard owners, into joining them to launch an award-winning gin.
The Design & Appearance
When pouring a Gin & Tonic (G&T) from the Monks Mary Jane bottle you can only smile. It is a beautifully designed glass bottle with a full wrap-around sticker to match. It feels premium and looks perfect. The classic marijuana leaf is encircling the entire bottle, letting you know that it is protected and blessed by Mary Jane herself. The overall appearance from the cylindrical cardboard case and bottle is seamless and well thought out. It is a brand that will stand out on any bar shelf or add a little class to any home countertop.
With the makers of this gin opting for a microbrewery – one named Jennifer I may add – the process is well managed and maintained allowing for consistency. As with all gins, the ABV (alcohol by volume) sits at 43%, making it a strong spirit but because of the organic and handcrafted process, you can taste its purity. However, don’t order this delectable gin thinking it will get you high – it won’t.
Unbelievable! The alchemy is truly something to behold. With this being Monks Mary Jane it is infused with hemp, allowing for a woody but fresh undertone that is picked up by the tongue. But this is all neutralised by the complex, yet complementary botanicals that bring in a fruity bouquet and citrus zing to the tastebuds. This G&T really does make one go, “OMG”.
Currently, the Monks Mary Jane is going for R500.00 online with retailers like One Day Only. As we all know you’d just need to wait it out for a deal, where you can get up to 30% off. However, for the less internet savvy shopper, you can buy this World Gin 2019 award-winner for R429.00. A reasonable price to own alchemy at its finest.
Monks Mary Jane was extremely well received by all of us stoners at the office. It offered a lovely flavour to fill our mouths, all while keeping hemp the real hero of the drink. We had only used a stock standard tonic water and garnish to create a more-ish G&T. Upon research, we discovered that Monks Gin offers additional products in their Mary Jane range. All of which are infused with CBD, these include syrups and Indian tonic waters. Along with that, there are recipes for the mixologist’s reading this to really take their G&T to the next level. We high-ly recommend you give this gin a try the next time you are out and about or just feeling pious.
