Discovered along with the cannabis were fake police ID cards and a car with illegal Serbian police signage. Two assault rifles and a handgun were also uncovered. A total of 9 peolpe have been arrested in relation to the discovery, which includes one of the senior members of the commercial farm.
Serbia’s deputy speaker, Miroslav Aleksic, told a press conference that Nebojsa Stefanovic, who oversees the police while serving as deputy prime minister, was “a frequent visitor to Jovanjica” and had not made himself available to “boast of the large seizure”.
Mr Stefanovic made a public comment on the raid shortly after it took place, praising the police force for their ongoing narcotic operations in the country.
As a response to public comments, police director Vladimir Rebic accused politicians of “irresponsibility”.
He was quoted by local media saying: “Unfortunately, because of the irresponsibility of individual politicians, officers had to face a variety of untruths… all in the midst of an investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office, which could have jeopardized it”.
