Billy Beats Episode 4: Bonging to Boom Bap

Boom Bap

So For those that don’t know, Boom Bap is a form of rap that was swung into the spotlight in the late 90s early 2000s with artists such as Mobb Deep, Onyx and even Early Wu-Tang leading the way to a gritty, brutal and street style of rapping that made you feel like you were actually in a rap battle or floating on cloud nine.

The genre was super popular within the skating communities and city-based teens and adults alike. Now the reason I’ve decided to dedicate an entire playlist to this genre is after ripping a big bong or smoking a silky smooth jay to Boom Bap can truly elevate and take you to a time of free love and ruthless street culture.

So let’s take it away with Billy Beats and my 10 favourite Boom Bap tracks of all time.

  1. Diamond D & The Psychotic Neurotics – Best Kept Secret
  2. O.G.C. (Originoo Gunn Clappaz) – Hurricane Starang / Danjer
  3. All City – The Actual
  4. Onyx – Throw Ya Gunz
  5. Nas – Nas Is Like
  6. Buckshot LeFonque – No Pain, No Gain (Salaam Remix ) 1995
  7. A.S.A.P – Wrek The Art
  8. El Da Sensei – Crowd Pleasa
  9. Mobb Deep – Shook Ones Pt. 1
  10. Wu-Tang Clan – C.R.E.A.M.

As always thanks for the continued support and love. I hope these beats excite you as much they do me.

Peace, love and success
– Billy bong
