Residents of the small American town of Snowflake, just east of Arizona, were treated to an amazing and out of this world bright purple sky as a result of the ultraviolet lights used at a nearby medical marijuana farm.
A local resident, Cara Smith, captured a photo of their purple sky, showcasing the stunning spectacle. This photo went viral, spreading rapidly across social media platforms.
As out of this world as a sight like this appears, there was a reasonable explanation. Ultraviolet lights from a nearby cannabis farm reflected off the snow-covered ground, lighting up the clouds in the sky.
Water droplets in the atmosphere assisted in spreading the light across the sky, which could be seen from kilometres away. The photo was taken at 6:30 in the morning
The farm responsible for the purple clouds, Copperstate Farms, have been operating since 2017. This farm is responsible for over 70 various marijuana strains, grown in 40 acres of greenhouses. Ultraviolet lights are used to speed up growth and improve the quality of their plants.
